How to fix protein overload

If you’re dealing with protein overload, the first step is to take a break from anything with protein in it. That means putting aside your protein-loaded shampoos, conditioners, masks, leave-ins—anything that mentions keratin or protein needs to be paused for a while. Your hair needs a protein detox to recover.

I recommend reaching for something that’s protein-free and is packed with hydrating ingredients like glycerin, aloe vera, and panthenol. Even fatty alcohols (ceatryl) can work wonders on such hair. These ingredients will help restore hydration and flexibility.

Weekly deep hydration masks are your best friend here. If you want quicker results, applying these masks weekly for 15 minutes (or as the brand instructs) can make a huge difference.
